The People Behind Ipswich High School – Mrs Lizzy Wheelhouse

At Ipswich High School, each week we will focus on celebrating one member of our community. This initiative will highlight the diverse contributions of both teaching and support staff, offering students, parents and colleagues a deeper appreciation for the people who make the school flourish. This week, we learn more about Mrs Lizzy Wheelhouse who is our Head of PE at Ipswich High School.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN AT IHS?
Since 2007 (I think!)
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO JOIN THE IHS COMMUNITY?
I was relocating to the area and fortuitously this post became available.
The reputation of the school made me apply, and the feeling I got as I walked around on the tour felt this was the right place for me. Thankfully I got the job!
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT WORKING AT IHS?
The pupils and colleagues are second to none.
Being a PE teacher I love being outside and what better place to spend it than in beautiful surroundings with views across the Orwell.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE MEMORY FROM WORKING AT IHS?
So many to choose from. Probably accompanying my first long haul trip abroad to Singapore and Malaysia with the senior hockey and netball teams.
We planted a couple of trees alongside the drive in the sheep field to help offset the carbon footprint!
Oh and an incident with a bag of Doritos being a cure for cramp, if you take GCSE/A Level PE you will hear this story!
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY DOING OUTSIDE OF WORK?
I enjoy playing hockey and I play for Ipswich Hockey Club at the weekends during the hockey season.
I also play for England Masters throughout the year where I play in international events such as home nations, the European Cup, and the World Cup, for both indoor and outdoor hockey teams.
WISE WORDS: IS THERE A QUOTE OR SAYING YOU LIVE YOUR LIFE BY?
“Do as you would be done by.” A quote I remember my grandma using. Essentially, treat others as you wish to be treated.
YOUR FAVOURITE SUBJECT AT SCHOOL:
P.E of course.
WHAT TYPE OF BOOKS/MOVIES DO YOU ENJOY?
I am a big softy at heart, so any film or TV that has that feel-good factor.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE LUNCH AT IHS?
I love the pizzas and anything with custard!!
