Welcome to

Sport at IHS

At Ipswich High School we aim to inspire our pupils to have a passion for sport that lasts a lifetime.

We want to challenge pupils to be the best versions of themselves, giving them the tools to cope with sports highs and lows, giving them the skills to learn, adapt and succeed. Within our sportโ€™s we want to ensure our children develop their resilience, teamwork, leadership, and creativity. Ultimately using sport as a tool to develop children with great characters.

“Our Games, P.E and Sport Enrichment Programme are intertwined to offer not only a great variety of sporting options but a platform for our pupils to excel.”

Mr Thomas Taylor – Director of Sport

Our Sports Programme

Our sports programme provides great breadth. Within our PE curriculum children will learn a variety of swimming techniques, play badminton, perform gymnastics, and compete in athletics and tennis. In Games, boys will play rugby, football, hockey and cricket and girls will play hockey, netball and cricket. While the majority of our fixtures are in our games sports, we have excelled recently in Triathlon and Pistol Shooting and we have a competitive Swimming Gala Program.

Running alongside the PE and Games curriculum is our extensive enrichment programme. This does not exclusively cover all of our games sports but is enhanced to also include golf, sailing, triathlon, equestrian, x country and pistol shooting. Another one of our aims is to allow pupils to find a sport or physical activity they wish to continue lifelong, hence why we offer a great breadth of opportunity for our pupils.

Sports Excellence Programme

At Ipswich High School, we are dedicated to providing exceptional sporting opportunities that inspire, challenge, and develop young athletes. We are committed to developing young athletes by providing elite coaching across multiple sports.

Our Sports Excellence Programme offers pupils in Years 6-9 the chance to train with top-level coaches and take their game to the next level. This dedicated programme is offered in addition to our Enrichment Programme, giving pupils even more opportunity to pursue their passions and reach their potential.

Currently, the programme includes Rugby, Cricket, Netball, and Football, with further sports planned. Whether your child is looking to refine their technique, build confidence, or gain high-level training experience, our expert coaching team is here to help them excel.

Our Facilities

Our final aim is to provide a platform for our most able performers, in all of our sports to thrive. Whether that be through our scholarship programme, mentoring and offering further support to those pupils on performance pathways. The school has exceptional sports facilities including a 25m indoor swimming pool, AstroTurf pitches, multiple rugby and football pitches, indoor and outdoor courts and a fitness suite. With an 88-acre campus, many sports take place on-site as part of the curriculum and Enrichment Programme. These excellent facilities help our pupils achieve their full sporting potential, whether during PE, games lessons or extra-curricular activities that are embedded in our school day.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated and talented department with a wide range of skills and experience. With our PE staff teaching from Nursery up to Sixth Form we have been able to formulate a school-wide approach to sport and consistency to our Sports Programme for all our children. We welcome applications for sports scholarships and the details can be found below. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Sport.
